FELS OF EUROPE Conferences
Science@FELs conference series
FELS OF EUROPE organise the Science@FELs conference every two years, having started in 2014. The conference highlights recent science achievements and new developments in the boosting field of free electron lasers. It covers applications in condensed matter research, biology, chemistry, matter under extreme conditions, atomic and molecular systems as well as theory. Dedicated introductory lectures for students and young researchers are offered and student grants are allocated to support their participation. Starting in 2016, Fels of Europe award the FEL Science and Applications prize.
The next Science@FELs conference is scheduled for summer 2026.
Former Science@FELs conferences
- Science@FELs 2024 at Synchrotron Soleil and Sorbonne University, France
- Science@FELs 2022 at DESY and EuXFEL, Hamburg, Germany
- Science@FELs 2020 as online conference
- Science@FELs 2018 in Stockholm, Sweden
- Science@FELs 2016 at Elettra Trieste, Italy
- Science@FELs 2014 at PSI, Switzerland

PhotonDiag conference series
FELS OF EUROPE also organise the PhotonDiag - a workshop series on FEL Photon Diagnostics, Instrumentation, and Beamlines Design - every two years since 2015 with one predecessor in 2010 at DESY (Hamburg, Germany). The workshops focus on photon beam diagnostic techniques, time-related beam properties, FEL optics, photon beam transport, science instruments, detectors, and data handling. The workshops also provide a forum for training of facility staff and exchange with relevant industry.
The next PhotonDiag conference will take place from 2-4 September 2025 at the Liverpool University Guild of Students, UK.
